Driver wounded in accidental Jacksonville shooting during road incident

A pickup driver in Jacksonville was wounded by gunshot Thursday in what police and the man’s father-in-law described as an accidental shooting.

The man’s gun went off when another passenger in the truck grabbed it in a confrontation with another driver, said James Borum, whose son-in-law was taken to Shands Jacksonville hospital.

“Indications are at this time that the injuries are most likely accidental,” John said. The sergeant did not release other details about the shooting.

The nature of the confrontation between the two vehicles was not clear. Borum said his son-in-law has a concealed weapons permit for the 9mm Glock that was in the truck

One of the main rules of gun safety is to never point a gun at anything that you are not willing to destroy. Another is to keep your booger hook off the bang switch until you are fully prepared to shoot, i.e. that you are sure of your target and the backdrop.

A person has to violate at least two of the rules for a negligent discharge to occur.

Every high school graduate should know the basics of safe gun handling.
