Grand Rapids chicken restaurant's video cameras show 'justifiable' homicide by convicted felon

GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- Police say a chicken restaurant's surveillance cameras revealed that a 25-year-old man - a felon tied to a 2007 slaying - shot and killed another man in self-defense last weekend.

Thomas Albert-Earl Davis fired the shot that killed Terrance Bruce Williams, 24, early Sunday, Oct. 21 in a parking lot at the southwest corner of Division Avenue and Franklin Street, police said.

The self-defense ruling didn't stop police from arresting Davis for gun offenses, however, including carrying a concealed weapon, felony firearms and being a felon in possession of a weapon.

but there are various other charges he's going to be facing and I suspect some heavy time in prison.

Unless it would've been better for Davis to be murdered flat-out by the aggressor, and he was wrong to use the tools at his disposal to stop him. He does need to be prosecuted for any crimes he committed by possessing those tools, but the shooting itself appears to be legit. They're separate statutes, and need to be treated separately.

Just goes to show, ex-cons can be victims of violent crime, too. They just can't lawfully defend themselves with firearms, and if they do, they will face the full weight of the law for doing so.

Too many people around here would like us all to be like Davis.

Felons convicted of violent crimes should not have access to firearms, all persons should have the same right to self defense. An interesting dilemma. I wonder if they'll charge the dead guy w/anything?
