Three men facing terrorism trial for alleged al-Shabaab training plead guilty

A former British citizen and two Swedish citizens pleaded guilty on Tuesday to one conspiracy count rather than face trial on US terrorism charges that they provided material support to the Islamic militant group al-Shabaab in Somalia.
Madhi Hashi, 25, whose UK citizenship was revoked in 2012, and Swedish citizens Ali Yasin Ahmed, 30, and Mohamed Yusuf, 32, pleaded guilty in federal court in Brooklyn to a single count of conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization.
They pleaded guilty hours before potential jurors were to receive questionnaires to vet their participation in a trial.
Prosecutors said that from 2008 to 2012, the three men participated in weapons and explosives training with members and associates of al-Qaida-allied al-Shabaab and agreed to support its agenda.
