So that goes to show... I'm not sure what, but my family has an affinity for blacks and want them to win.

There are so few people with my last name, that I used to seek out strangers with it. Imagine my mortification when I went to visit a teacher in my high school with the same name and saw she was black. I fled the room, what was I to say?

Something along the lines, of uh, my family gave you that name because they owned you? So that I avoided.

Maybe I missed out on a good thing, but I was ashamed. In the years that followed, since the name was unusual, people from other states called to find relatives as they didn't have their phone numbers, and didn't have the local phone directory with more names. They were all black and some even sent me thank you letters for taking the time to find out where their relative lived and their number.

Why would they bother, if they had the same thoughts I had, or if they were angry about it?

The surname is unusual but I can trace my paternal lineage, name for name, for over a thousand years.

The famous POC can be found by Google, but they are not unknown names culturally. The white ones in the UK are in the Google and history books. Not royals, but 'traveled' together. Scholars, officials, blah, blah. Why do I say blah?

Because I don't know what happened to any of the parallel lines, I got no inherited wealth, we were all workers of one kind or another and satisfied with it. I never felt it made me special, but I knew I had white privilege and my perception of that unearned advantage made me feel uncomfortable. After all there are more important things than what a person can get away with which is how some people use theirs.

The Anglosphere has many of my folk doing well from education, which is a Golden Key. And there is a certain facial resemblance that holds strong through all of them I've seen images of and it's a shame POC have less to go on.

My family told me a lot of the dirt done to blacks growing up. They did good and died young.

To me, check me if I misspeak, but it's why I consider AA's to be the most AMERICAN folk. This is where they come from, believe it or not, in my mind. Other than native americans, this is their country.

I could say some more about white people generally, but I bet it'd get hidden as being 'racist.' I love all the kinds of people as souls... but I don't love all souls, that's the truth.

Very interesting. I never really meet any Black people with my last name, but i find a lot o hispanics with my name. I get Facebook requests from every latin american nation and PR. I've always felt a bit left out, but it's because I have the wrong name.
But with my grandfathers name and my Dad's name there are jus too many lines to trace without DNA. Too many Smith's and Morgan's in the world and I'm probably related to half of them.
I would like to walk down a street with my name. It would be cool.
