In Oklahoma, a white survivalist shot a police chief three times in the chest and once in the arm. The shooting did not result in an arrest or charges and the man, identified by local media as 29-year-old Dallas Horton, has been released.
In a press release, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said, Facts surrounding the case lead agents to believe the man was unaware it was officers who made entry. But Louis Ross, the Sentinel, Oklahoma police chief who was shot, said that he entered the home after Washita County 911 received two calls from a man who identified himself as Dallas Horton, and claimed to have a bomb inside the head start school.
Ross cast doubt on the credibility of Hortons claim that he didnt know officers were present, noting that there was screaming from five officers of the law announcing our presence, requesting to see hands. Ross only survived the shooting because he was wearing a bulletproof vest. He has massive bruises and welts on his body and the shot that hit his arm went clean through.
In a second statement released yesterday the Oklahoma State Bureau Of Investigation said Horton was fully cooperating with the on-going investigation and no traces of explosives were found.

(16,199 posts)1. I'm not sure what kind of justice the Police Chief is owed.
The man in the house did not call in the bomb threat and was only protecting his family from a home invasion. The Police Chief and other officers did NOT have a search warrant and therefore illegally smashed their way into the man's home. He probably wasn't charged because the illegal actions of the police would destroy their case for attempted murder, etc.
Now, this does show the continuing divide on race and outcomes. This white man went free, while in a nearly identical situation, the black man is charged with murder.
Likely alarmed by the men climbing through his windows at 5:30 in the morning, Guy and his wife sought to protect themselves and their property and fired on the intruders- in self defense.
Dinwiddie, along with three other officers were shot while attempting to breach the windows to the home, according to the departments press release.
The TRU was beginning to breach the window when the 49 year old male inside, opened fire striking four officers.
Since the shooting occurred during the break in, a reasonable person would assume they had not yet identified themselves as police officers. How on earth is this not self defense?
Prosecutors are now seeking the death penalty against Guy. He is charged with capital murder in Dinwiddies death, as well as three counts of attempted capital murder for firing on the other officers during the shootout, injuring one other officer. Body armor protected others who were hit.
