Michelle Obama Dismisses ‘Angry Black Woman’ Image

'Michelle Obama Dismisses ‘Angry Black Woman’ Image'
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/01/michelle-obama-on-new-book-some-want-to-give-her-angry-black-woman-image/

"First Lady Michelle Obama denied reports of tension between her and White House aides, saying people have tried to portray her as “some kind of angry black woman.”

"...“I guess it’s more interesting to imagine this conflicted situation here and a strong woman. But that’s been an image that people have tried to paint of me since the day Barack announced. That I’m some angry black woman.”

I am so heartbroken that this beautiful, brilliant, gracious woman even had to DIGNIFY this racist BS with a response that I can't type straight. Few of us have not been in her shoes, which is why this hurts so damn much.

'Calling us angry? Michelle Obama and the 'angry black woman' label'

intensely moving reads. looking that closely at just a sampling of what black women have reason to be angry about, it leaves me thinking, where is the book about FLObama's superhuman capacity for calm, compassion and incredible loving kindness?!

thank you for that, Number23!

thank you so much for posting this, Number23.

it shows how loved First Lady Obama is, and how threatened by that fact they are, that they keep searching for ways to do this to her. she is the most constantly positive person, pouring loving care all over the whole country, the world, every where she goes!!!

and that, despite her having more than plenty of reason TO be angry. (i just read some of the excellent article you link up-thread.) bless her, i can not even IMAGINE having the quiet calm and constant kindness she always pours forth!!

i pray this backfires on those monsters. i feel much of this country will see through this attempt to manipulate their true feelings for Michelle Obama.

wrote a book and never had a conversation with President or Mrs. Obama in two years' time, however attempts to divine what her feelings were. To me, that take a lot of goddamn nerve to tell others what someone else is feeling or thinking.

Having said that, if anything that the author said has any truth to it, then it makes me feel good knowing that Mrs. Obama was just as alarmed at the people her husband had surrounding him as myself and many, many people here on DU have expressed for 3 1/2 years now.

I hear what you are saying. I really do. And I agree with most of it.

But this part: "it makes me feel good knowing that Mrs. Obama was just as alarmed at the people her husband had surrounding him as myself and many, many people here on DU"

the fact that Michelle Obama is on the same page as posters on DU is not exactly comforting to me particularly considering that I find her infinitely more charming, intelligent and informed than most of the folks here.

but I'm glad to read that the very same misgivings I've had, it would appear she had--therefore, my misgivings were not unreasonable.

some of these other folks around here.... not so much.

I'm glad to read that the very same misgivings I've had, it would appear she had--therefore, my misgivings were not unreasonable.

Understand completely. I still wonder how much of the "bad blood" she allegedly had with Rahm was real.

"Despite the pain these critiques cause Mrs. Obama and other African-American women who identify with her, I do believe that these feelings are not particularly widespread. Most see the first lady as she is: a beautiful, gracious, intelligent, elegant, devoted wife and mother of whom we can be proud.

Those who insult her insult us all and, yes, we should be angry."

Considering my less than flattering opinion of Ms. Parker, I was prepared for her usual and baffling combination of cluelessness and snide condescension. But on this, I actually agree with her.

In my opinion, it was a thoughtful article by Ms. Parker. She'll be back to her old ways. LOL. But, apparently, the attacks on the first lady touched a raw nerve. And, to me. That makes sense.
