Protesters shut down Bernie Sanders rally
By Elliot Smilowitz and Megan R. Wilson

Protesters who claimed affiliation with the Black Lives Matter movement stormed the stage during a rally for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in Seattle on Saturday, taking over the microphone and forcing Sanders to leave without ever speaking.

The Associated Press: Sanders talks at rally after activists disrupt earlier event

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders spoke to a packed crowd Saturday night at the University of Washington campus about his commitment to criminal justice reform as well as addressing income equality.

I would like feedback from those on the 'front lines' of this matter. As a Caucasian, my perspective can only be 'support staff' so I'd like insight from those with a more personal connection as to whether shutting down political rallies helps or hinders the message.

My initial reaction is that completely shouting down rallies, etc is a bit too extreme, but some comnentators have suggested the tactic has succeeded in getting face-to-face meetings w/ Dem candidates, therefore proving effectiveness. If true, why not harass Repubs as well?

I need receipts and pay stubs or it's not happening like that.

That's like me saying Code Pink was a Koch Comsipracy to turn people against the anti Iraq war movement. <--- I wouldn't write something like that unless it was true.

BTW - I'm trying to engage them and #blacktwitter to join DU. Maybe if they do and stick to the AfAm group - the rest of DU won't need a lifetime supply of smelling salts.

O'Malley is getting the same shit and did at NRN. I suspect his real time reach outs in South Carolina and Baltimore is why he isn't getting dragged. That young leadership meeting a few weeks ago - those images were priceless. He's sitting down with black media outlets.

Sanders needs to sit down with a black publication/outlet NOT BAR (that's a bigoted joke of an outfit) and show his non professorial firebrand sides. Have a convo.

Stop shouting and talking AT people and they will stop shouting at and talking to you.

One more thing - its not what you've done for me - it's what have you done for me lately.

You have any 20 Something late teens black men in your family? Collegiate? I do.

Stop with the marched with MLK.

They have not one fuck to give about that. They DO care about the parallels between Mr. Brown, Jordan, and Trayvon and Emmett Till.

If they aren't at your house for Sunday dinner consider yourself lucky you don't have to hear, "Fuck America it hates me."

And you know what? My nephews are right.

The Democratic party we did.

We have given, and given, and given to this country. We have been patient.

These youths - they are taking a Sylvester Carrier approach. His name is not well known by many white Americans - but he fought back. Long before MLK or Malcolm, or Cummins etc etc - there was a man in his house with a gun. A Democratic President was gnashing his teeth and wringing his hands over it.
