To so many great posters here in the AA group that have been fighting the good fight and taking the hits these last couple months.
I'm mostly a reader and only occasionally a poster but even the people who just put a toe in the water are aware of how vicious the piranha have become.
One thing I am thankful for is the respectful and courteous discourse here in the AA group.
I don't think that it's an accident that main stream Democrats such as myself have gravitated here lately. I feel comfortable asking and answering questions knowing that when the discussion is over - I may've been corrected but had never been attacked.
So, thanks to the hosts and the regulars. I appreciate your efforts. Thank you to the long established members for including new folks such as myself without the all too common dismissiveness that a low post count attracts in other areas on DU.
I hope the Holliday Season goes well for you all, and that your New year is healthy, happy and prosperous
Peace

(31,849 posts)that our purpose here, in the AA Group, is NOT to attack ANYONE ... we may disagree with a statement or an opinion, and will say so, explicited; but, we are about discourse, not silence ... which seems to encourage attacks from those seeking a fight.

(13,192 posts)the only time I was participating in a thread when a poster got sent away, they were very far over the line and received multiple warnings.
And then immediately posted a whine/brag post elsewhere about their poor reception here.
Keep up the good work 1SBM, and my thoughts are with you during this difficult time.
It is never a good time to face these things but it feels exceptionally cruel at this time of year.

(22,920 posts)That just brought tears to my eyes. So many of us are longing for this. I know, I know...maybe I'm overly emotional, but to have the express intent NOT to attack is rare nowadays.

BTW, Mrs. Polack and I may be adding a rescue Rotty to our house soon.
If the Rotty and our Pibble can get along during an extended home visit this weekend.
She (the Rott) was saved from a puppy mill operation - the vet thinks she had a litter every time she came into heat for most of her life, so we have some health issues work through.
It's up to the pibble tho - If she doesn't want a newbie in the house then it can't happen.
Merry Christmas - Hanukah - Eid - New Year - Tet...
Whatever you celebrate I hope it's grand

(8,709 posts)You are among the many people necessary in this struggle. It's so fantastic not to have to deal "I didn't cause it" or "trying to make white people feel guilty" in the endless list of denials in addressing what, I think, is the quintessencial problem in the world. Leaving fragility at the door when coming here is probably the hardest but most respectful stance you can take, and I appreciate that.

My point of view in any forum.
Even this one. This requires a bit of background. Please bear with me or skip ahead...
My father was a career military member. I spent an appreciable chunk of my life oversees. I met and befriended other children as a matter of course.
Later, while building my own military career, I married an asian woman and was - not exactly shunned but maybe "un-favorited" by an awful lot of my former social group.
As well as some family.
It made me think.
Mrs Polack is a devout practicing Buddhist who tells everyone she can reach that all people are inherently worthy of respect. To do otherwise damages society and damages your self - not yourself, your Self.
In the middle of that stew, I'm being supervised, led and trained by an eclectic mix of people.
Eventually I'm leading and training men and women of every size shape color and creed.
Guess what I learned? The ratio of shitheads to solid individuals was pretty fucking stable - no matter how you attempted to categorize.
So that's about it. Thanks for your patience on this rant.
Peace

(8,709 posts)And that's the problem, many shitheads with ridiculous unfounded beliefs who are in control. But I do wonder though, because it's apathy among the solid individuals that's alarming to me. It's mostly "good" people who don't get involved on any level and let things be. The solid/good individuals to me far outnumber the shitheads. So I've learned to dismiss, as much as possible, the shitheads and focus on the one individual who does try to understand.
Your life sounds exciting, well lived, one of self-reflection, and it's kind of delightful just knowing a small part of it. I hope that you, your beautifully aware wife and family truly have a wonderful holiday season this year and beyond, The Polack MSgt
