DeRay McKesson teaches Stephen Colbert what 'woke' means

http://www.ew.com/article/2016/01/19/deray-mckesson-stephen-colbert

I didnt know "woke", either.

Watch the interview in this link.

At one point when Stephen is discussing how he doenst know what his white privilege is, he does say I invited you on the show, is that part of my doing the right thing, to which DeRay said "baby steps", and "thanks".

My initial reaction was DeRay should have been more appreciative, because Stephen having him on is a big deal and a huge break for Campaign Zero as to exposure.

This is Hollywood, so to speak, and egos have to be massaged.

But in reality, this was the exact right answer, given the problem and the tiny amount of exposure BLM has on major media, they get talked about, but not to, often enough.

Since I had to look it up on urban dictionary, I am probably not

I thought it was a funny bit on a serious topic. I would have liked more elaboration on what white privilege is and how to address it. McKesson was using good role playing technique to try to get Colbert to figure it out himself, but there was not time or the seriousness to do it in depth. But maybe baby steps is a start, particularly on mainstream TV.

Did you ever watch The Angry Eye experiment? Can't remember if I found the videos on this forum or somewhere else, but they are a really intense exploration of privilege.
