Today in Charlotte

Protests over the police shooting of Keith Scott continue. Here are some snaps from the march today.

This is an activist speaking on the steps of the police department. She is mostly blocked by another camera, but I like the guy on the steps next to her. You can kind of see the National Gaurd in the background.

This one is not mine, but it was better than mine, so I included.

People are out in the streets again tonight. So many young people are coming night after night after night. They are getting more organized and focused as events unfold. I am furious with my city, but also proud when I see these young people stepping up to lead.

There are multiple live streams on Twitter and Facebook for anyone who is interested watching events unfold in real time. I encourage people to look at citizen-produced streams. The 24 hour news media is here, but they seem more interested in instigating and highlighting controversial behavior by people probably not even affiliated with the movement than in actually reporting events.

Long day here in Charlotte, but I wanted to check in with this group.

That's how you win. It's a beautiful sight, this show of support. We are all sick and tired of being sick and tired.

Majority black, but not by much. Immigrant community is showing up. Many, many white protesters and organizers are involved. LGBTQ has been a notable presence, particular genderqueer. What is interesting to me is how young the median age is and how few of the organizers I actually know. Often, when I go to political events, it seems like I already know everybody. It's the same 20-30 people over and over. It is great to see young people stepping up into leadership positions.
