what's the "evolution" of racial science? Is it making a comeback?

"Racial science" as I understand it, isn't science at all, just bigotry in drag and deserves even less time than creation "science".

Then you, clearly, do not "understand" it.

in order to expand my horizons, I did several searches on variations of racial science, and every one of them came up with vast amounts of Nazi experiments, Jefferson's theories on race, and other such stuff attempting to "prove" that several races (no, these geniuses didn't forget to classify Orientals, Native Americans and others) were inferior to us northern European types.

I found nothing to imply that such "science" is anything but justification for racism and bigotry.

So, you know of another avenue for this research?

I should have been more clear. By "racial science", I am referring to the academic work of social scientists.

My post was out of frustration with some here that reference "Webster's" dictionary and Pre-Civil Rights Era writings in their defining the term, "Racism."

And their refusing to even consider that the academic understanding of the phenomena has evolved ... even when pointed to sources that indicate as much.

seems you're about the evolution of understanding of racism and language.

Things have changed a lot since the pre-civil rights days, but some still don't get it.

When I get a chance, I'll dig into some of the stuff in this group. Sounds like it could be interesting.

yet it is helpful in understanding how one group can be misled as to their racial superiority by data that is flawed but still widely referred to by racists. I think. I do agree with junk science analysis, though. Yet this "junk" science is still used in some circles today in the 21st century. I'm just trying to help poster understand one of the roots of racism. That's all.

white person experience racial animosity in America?

Jesus, talk about delusional.

Look, people, this is how simple it is.

If you are white in America (you can also put male in the same place for misogyny) you DAILY receive BENEFITS from racism ongoing today, even if you are the most liberal white man in America, the least racist (like me) you are still racist (like me) to the degree that you derive benefits from racism (misogyny and males works too here)...

Not complicated and not one bit debatable.

I have no doubt that some, even many; but nowhere near most, or all, white folks have suffered racial animosity in American ... with the frequency/likelihood, in a direct relationship with their proximity to PoC, and increasing where the people are in competition for resources.

We all hear the stories of the lone white kid getting beat up by Black kids for no apparent reason than their being the white kid (though MY anecdotal experience would have it that the (perceived) "weak"/"uncool" kid gets beat up, regardless of race; and the (perceived) "strong"/"cool" kid does not. In my later life's experience (as a bar-tender in a "Black" bar), I found that white folks were, if not exactly welcomed, not messed with, in Black spaces ... so long as they did not act the ass).

But racial animosity should not be confused with racism.

I was going to make an OP to ask AAs if they thought I and others were right or wrong, as we tried to call out what we saw as racist in an OP in GD.

I saw it in the same line as the way Trayvon was treated. Our teachers are patiently telling us what we object to is a compliment and we just don't understand the nuances.

They are really being nice and polite, but that's what it boils down to, for me at least. Don't know what you would think.

I figured this wouldn't be any news here and didn't want to start a fuss by linking it in AA. It'd get locked, so we would not get to talk about it here.

I blame nostalgia for this "clinging to old definitions" from times long past. Many refuse to agree on definitions in order to not have the conversation. I believe many fear having to do something about it themselves and want to be acknowledged as the 'real' victim or see something inside of themselves that resemble the nastiness of racism. TBH.

What aspect of racial science, or scientific racism are you referring to? Or do you consider the two terms separate and reference different phenomena?
The climate change deniers deny the science that leads to the presumption of climate change caused by changes in environmental factors. How is that analogous to race science?

I probably should have said, "the study of racism."

Those that argue wish to argue the Webster's definition of "racism" are denying that, with the study of the phenomena, social scientists have gained a better understanding of how racism works ... just as with the study of climate change, physical scientists have gained a better understanding of how climate change works. In both instances, the scientist have, largely, abandoned earlier explanations.

The study of racism is a social science and not real science. The only entry into the scientific field is in Evolutionary Psychology which at this point in time is basically crap, I mean a pseudoscience. Much like most of the field of psychology, outside of behavioral psychology.
