Have Indian Country Today got this story on the head?
Would a no-overfly zone be effective as well as closer monitoring of sea-going vessels? I don't know much about Alaskan/Canadian international concerns regarding preservation/conservation of resources that Russian may covet and climate-changed sea and air lanes. How desperate will it become, and should USA and our neighbor be doing more to halt Russian aggressive maneuvers near the pole where indigenous peoples live by their intimate knowledge with changing sea life that by itself seems threatening the existence of the indigenous First Americans in Alaska and Yukon territories?

1. The Arctic Council is an organization that does such things.
They deal with matters like climate change, conservation, and concerns of indigenous Arctic populations. Russia is one of the members, along with Canada, Denmark (Greenland), Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and the U.S. I don't know how the Ukraine situation will affect Russia's ongoing participation, though. https://arctic-council.org/

2. Yes. I always trust Indian Country Today. The Russians are trying to take over all the
polar regions they can (think natural resources here) and if they succeed it's going to be
bad for all of us. |
