Personally, even though my books are about one, I like both kinds.

The Cat Who series is my favorite of the non-talking variety, but it always frustrated the hell out of me when Qwilleran would kind of ignore KoKo and pretend like his actions were merely a coincidence.

I guess that might be why my Cat is so sassy.

The Joe Grey series by Shirley Rousseau Murphy is probably the most famous talking cat series that not a whole lot of people have ever heard of, because I never heard of it until after I'd finished my books.

Anyway, what do you think?

1. I'm fond of them.

Especially when written by someone who truly understands the psychology of cats.
Fritz Leiber wrote a few talking and many non-talking cat stories. Among the former were his short story "Ship of Shadows" in which an ill-tempered ship's cat tries to get his drunken "ssssot" of a human to do something about the vampires on board a space ship. His hefty novel "The Wanderer" features intelligent alien felines who are intent on stealing the Moon. These creatures are elegant, erotic, sarcastic and scary...as one would expect from cats grown large and smart!

7. Mr Gallico is a great writer

A lot of cat stories. I've only read The Snow Goose a story of Dunkirk, The Abandoned and The Poseidon Adventure. This link lists his many books.

A genetically modified Cat that can talk, an invisible RV and two planes, and the beginnings of a working holodeck are just the beginning.

I'm also working on a device that can be used to cross into other Universes, so Dr. Zinger can visit ours to publish the Criminal's Journals.

15. Check out 'Midnight Louie" a long and ongoing light mystery series set in Las Vegas.

Louie is a 20 pound black cat who fancies himself a P.I.

The first Midnight Louie mystery, now in eBook, offers a publishing industry exposé. When Temple Barr, five-feet-zero of feisty redhead, goes in hot pursuit of a stray black cat streaking through a publishing convention exhibit hall, she stumbles over a big-time NY editor lying dead. While Temple and Midnight Louie are on the case, the famous publishing mascots, a pair of Scottish Fold library cats named Baker and Taylor, are kidnapped for ransom. The pair must sniff out a murderer before Murder by the Book describes their fates.

The books are told in 3rd person for the humans but Louie talks to us in first person (even using a different font) As the series develops, Carole adds additional characters who sometimes make repeat appearances. These are really good stories with humor and warmth.

I recommend reading in order. These books can often be found at Half Price books or used via Amazon. Kindle versions are overpriced but that is her publisher's doing.

The author is Carole Nelson Douglas. She is a good Democrat who lives right here in Fort Worth TX. She always has a strong female lead.

20. update to add information on Midnight Louie and his creator

The first book was originally published as "Catnap" and was re-released as Cat in an Alphabet Soup
The book titles combine color and alphabet
example Cat on a Blue Monday Cat in a Crimson Haze etc.
