Here I go again ! "Pale Horse Coming" by Stephen Hunter...

This is my third reading of this book in the last 10 years.
And I have to say, it gets better every time.
I don't know how many thousands of books I have read over the years, but this one keeps showing up as one as one of my favorites.
Thebes State Penal Farm (Colored), 1950's Mississippi is the setting. Earl Swagger is the hero.
It is beyond my wildest imagination of evil.
Stephen Hunter is a great author. But, to me, this is his very best.

Do you have a book that you keep going back to, because it's so damn well written and tells a powerful story?

2. I have a couple that I keep going back to time and again.

"Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett
"The Poisonwood Bible" by Barbara Kingsolver
And the old standby, "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austin

5. Oh, poopy doo.

Pride and Prejudice is not an intellectual book. But it is a romance novel, so you have to like that as an occasional read. What I really like about it is the historical part of it----how life was for women at that time without the ability to inherit anything, so they had to have a husband. And I think that some of the characters are so funny, some so nasty....and of course some that you think are nasty who are not. I could go on forever, but it comes down to liking a good romance every once in a while.

"Point of Impact" is the one I've read at least 3 times, buying a new copy each time because the person I lend it to loves it so much they have to pass it on.

"Pale Horse Coming" is a very, very close second, though. I should buy these things for my kindle so I stop giving them away.

8. I remember reading it twice..

Once, real fast, cause I needed to know what was happening, and the second time to get the footage/guns/other stuff straight in my head...

It was one of the pack of books I ordered from Ebay - all pocket books - and it made me a nervous wreck. Wasn't used to fiction and I didn't know fiction had become so good...and also didn't know the library had become so good...

10. I must have 3 or 4 copies of it by now. I see it on a table at a

library book sale for fifty cents, I have to buy it...I rationalize that it saves me an hour of looking for it...
