1. The First Man of Rome by Colleen McCullough

This is one of the suggested books from someone here in Fiction. I just started it, and right now, I am trying to sort out all the people's names.

2. Purse book: Still working on Stephen King's "11/22/63"

I don't like most Stephen King books, but I love time travel novels, and this one is very richly imagined. It's about a 35-year-old man who goes back to 1958 at the request of a dying friend to try to stop JFK's assassination. (The portal to the past sends one to 1958.)

Bedside book: "Primitive Secrets" by Debra Turrell Atkinson. It's about a murder mystery that takes place in Hawaii and has connections with Hawaiian folklore and traditional religion.

3. A DROP OF CHINESE BLOOD (2012) by James Church

(Church uses a pseudonym - he was a US Intelligence Agent)

This is the first book in a series about Bing, nephew of Inspector O, the protagonist a preceding series about Inspector O. O is also in this series. Takes place in North Korea. All the books in these mystery series are a bit confusing and hard to follow, but are interesting and worth the effort.

5. I'm going to read this series again in the future...

It is so confusing and I never know what's going on or who the characters are, or even what language they're speaking. Involves S. Korea (the least), N. Korea, Mongolia and China. Except for the bad guys, the people are nice.

The banter between N. Korean Inspector O and his nephew, Chinese Inspector Bing is fun to read, even if I don't know what the hell is going on. They are dear to me.

6. OUT (2003) by Natsuo Kirino

I'm only on page 5 and it seems easy to read and has a natural flow. It is written by a Japanese woman, and translated by Stephen Snyder.

8. Didn't finish - too dreary

About 4 women who work in a sandwich factory with all kinds of problems - personal and at work - and there's not a smile to be had anywhere. I need some humor, but some may enjoy this one....well written.

7. Reread Slaughterhouse-Five today

while at the hospital (everything's fine). All in one sitting. It's just as good as it was the first time I read it a couple of years ago.
