(56,177 posts)I would think treanor and walsh-jennings are the favored..they have 2 gold already so seeing the other pair win would be nice.

a short straight sets victory so this cheesy, pointless abomination of a "sport" can finally conclude so that I can enjoy the rest of the Olympics without having to hear about the activities of these vapid, trashy, poorly tattooed melanoma candidates.
The worst mistake NBC has made with their Olympic coverage is legitimizing this mockery of a great game, so the sexually repressed perverts at home have something to beat off to.

(1,290 posts)It's contested by those who couldn't make their countries real volleyball teams.
My anger is more with the NBC producers who insist on devoting hours of prime-time coverage to this farce. For example, with everything that's going on in track, gymnastics, and countless other venues, NBC, in its 4 hour prime-time show gives beach volleyball more than an hour of coverage.
I have the same complaints about the over saturated coverage of snow boarding during the winter games.

(64,933 posts)have, why not dedicate a channel to it and just show the semi's and final's at the end of the tourney in prime time.
We have enjoyed actually seeing badminton, table tennis, archery, and other less promoted sports.

(1,290 posts)Despite our disdain for it, this event obviously gets good ratings for the network.
When the event first appeared on the program in '96 it was rightfully treated as a sideshow by everyone involved (spectators, organizers, broadcast partners). Since 2004 NBC has sold this to the public as a "marquee event", thereby ignoring more prestigious and interesting competitions in their prime-time shows.
I think the cable/daytime coverage has been strong this Olympics, despite the fact that beach volleyball takes up an inordinate amount of air time on those broadcasts too.
