Report: It's Not Too Early To Be Pessimistic About Cleveland Browns

CLEVELAND—Though the team has yet to play a single game, a report published Thursday by Sports Illustrated football writer Peter King confirmed that it is not yet too early to be pessimistic about the Cleveland Browns this season. "In years past, it might have made sense to wait until they started out with a five-game losing streak to declare the season over, but clearly the time to give up on the Browns is now," said King, whose report determined Cleveland has "all the right pieces in place" to start getting blown out immediately in week one. "This is a team that is absolutely beyond hope, trusting their offense to a rookie quarterback who will turn 29 in October and a banged-up rookie running back. And with all the injuries in the defense, you'd be crazy not to have a completely bleak outlook on this shit team." While acknowledging the Browns are a perennial favorite for worst team in the league, the report concluded the floor of their potential is now lower than ever and, with a little luck, 2012 could be the year they finally put together a whole season without a single win.

Forget about JUST the Browns. It's evident that team can't draft, can't run, is not interested in establishing a winning culture through trades, has absolutely no luck picking non-injury-prone linemen and because of this, free agents just aren't interested in coming here (For you "weather/economy" people, explain Green Bay and New England). There is no plan and I'm not optimistic a new owner is going to change that.

Just today, Terry Pluto came out with an article on how dismal the Indians are going to be for years, the chief culprit being no above-average youthful prospects. Shin-Soo Choo and Chris Perez are likely going bye-bye, which inevitably means it's "Fire Sale" time for Dolan; 'nother words, you'll be a waiting you-know-what if you're expecting this team to get out of the basement any year soon. Doesn't matter who manages them . . . the talent just is not there.

The Cavs . . . sigh. Being this city's only reasonable hope, I say they should tank two seasons in a row on purpose. They need reliable height. They need a Durant/LeBron-caliber player at the 2. Kyrie Irving and 11 journeymen guards & forwards just is not cutting it and they super-blew it in the 2012 draft.

Tony Rizzo once said in an article when asked why NE Ohio loves Columbus's OSU Buckeyes so much: "It has a lot to do with the fact that for the past 40 years, the Cavs, Browns and Indians just haven't been very good."

were supposed to make The Tribe contenders RIGHT NOW.

WTF happened?

Unless one considers being a contender for a few weeks.

Their pick of Dion Waiters was pretty much universally panned but there's usually just a few if any players I'm confident of going into a draft. There's so many teams in college basketball that quite a few players look awesome but disappear in the pros that I just can't call it. Eddie House and Ike Diogu were absolutely awesome for Arizona State but were never more than bench players though Eddie House was quite good. Diogu is currently playing overseas and was on the Nigeria Olympics Basketball Team.

I think Richardson was a good pick despite his performance against the Eagles. I'm not sure I favor the strategy of drafting a 28-year-old QB of the future in the first round but I understand the strategy of finding someone immediately to replace McCoy.

On paper, Philadelphia has an excellent secondary and Rodgers-Cromartie had 2 INTs in that game. If he continues to play this way against average defenses then there is a problem. Same goes for Richardson. Unless Vick was legitimately awful in that game (I didn't watch it) Cleveland could have a top notch D this year.
