NY Giants receiver Victor Cruz catches on with Team Obama, helps give President second term

Victor Cruz woke up Wednesday morning to the news that Barack Obama had been re-elected, and the receiver was ecstatic.

“I was very excited,” Cruz said. “It’s big for our community, it’s big for minorities, it’s big for the Latin community, it’s big for all of us. . . . I’m excited to have him back for another term.”

Cruz had done his part to help Obama’s campaign. In the spring, Cruz received a call at the Giants’ practice facility. The President wanted to speak with him.

“When you get a phone call from the President, you don’t tell him you’ll call him back,” Cruz said. “You go and answer the phone.

“He just told me how much of a fan he was of me, and (asked) if I wanted to help out, if I wanted to be a voice for the young people and help him out in any way possible. And I told him, ‘Of course.’”

Cruz wound up attending a handful of rallies in Florida and filming a commercial to support Obama.
