Avalanche goalie (Seymon Varlamov) arrested on domestic violence, kidnapping charges.

WOW.

Varlamov, 25, has led the Avalanche to a 10-1 start and is 7-1 in the games he has started. He has played in the NHL for five seasons, and the Avalanche picked him up in July 2011 after a trade with the Washington Capitals.

According to DPD information officer Sgt. Steve Warneke, the arrest stems from a conflict Tuesday, and an arrest warrant was issued. Varlamov has been charged with third-degree assault and second-degree kidnapping.

And that is in spite of the backup goalie having already had 2 shutout wins this season, so it shouldn't lower their odds of winning much.

The attitude that it's okay because he's a star sickens me. I get not cutting him until after he's had his day in court, but to continue to play him?

I wonder if it's because his coach Patrick Roy has also been known to be a perpetrator of domestic abuse. So many classless organizations in sports.

Especially since, according to his GF, "it's happened before". Surely the org and/or teammates know what he's capable of off-ice.
How can the decent ones stand to play with him?

I'd be the D-man who's "accidentally" spraying ice in his face or knocking him down at every opportunity.

If nothing else, he should be scratched from the lineup. Part of me also thinks he should be benched w/o pay but I'm not 100% that that's the right thing to do.
