Giants sign Ryan Vogelsong to two year deal...

Ryan Vogelsong finally has some security, and he earned it. The Giants' pitcher, who made a storybook comeback in 2011 and went 13-7 with a 2.71 ERA, has the first multiyear contract of his career: two years and $8.3 million. The deal includes a club option for 2014.

Nice. It's good to know where I'm going to be for two years," Vogelsong said in a phone interview Wednesday night from Philadelphia after taking a physical in San Francisco and flying cross country. "I enjoy playing for the Giants. It's where I want to be. I feel I connected with the fan base. We have a team that can be in contention.

"Obviously, with the way my career was going, I never thought financial status like this would ever happen, so it is life-changing. Will it change me as a player? No."

Vogelsong, 34, was out of the majors for four seasons before returning to the Giants and becoming one of baseball's best feel-good stories, earning an All-Star berth and winning the Willie Mac Award as the team's most inspirational player.

Ryan was a great story last year, in what was a disappointing season for the Giants overall. Now, we'll see if he can continue his success..

I am in a very competitive fantasy baseball league. All of us follow players closely and most of the time, when a pitcher throws a couple of good outings or a top prospect arrives, he’s immediately grabbed off the waivers. This guy sat on the waiver wire for probably 6 weeks because nobody could figure out if he was for real. I kept searching for info on him thinking maybe he played in Japan or had Tommy John surgery or something and never could get a good feel for it he was going to continue his success or not.

It is a great story and you have to tip your hat to a guy who made it back when most players his age would have hung up the cleats.
