Assault charge against Dallas Cowboys player Henry Melton dropped

Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Henry Melton’s legal troubles related to a December bar scuffle are now over.

The Tarrant County District Attorney’s office announced Wednesday that a misdemeanor assault charge against Melton is being dropped. A lawsuit filed by the bar owner was settled last month without a monetary settlement.

A written statement from the District Attorney’s office said that Donald Payne, the owner of Chill Sports Bar in Grapevine, had asked officials to drop the criminal case. Prosecutors have filed a motion with the court to dismiss the Class A misdemeanor charge.

Payne said in a lawsuit that Melton punched and bit him. Melton filed a counterclaim and accused staff of hitting, kicking and choking him as he being removed from the bar. He also claimed in a court filing that one of the people called him the “N” word.

After a face-to-face meeting, Melton and Payne decided to drop the claims against each other.
