The secretary-general of FIFA, Jérôme Valcke, has expressed concerns about levels of drunkenness at World Cup matches, and suggested the organization may need to ban some sales of beer.
I was amazed by the number of people who have been drunk, by the level of alcohol people had, Valcke said in an interview with Brazils SportTV channel. I dont know why I dont think its just a specific thing to this World Cup but I was a bit surprised by the level of alcohol which was taken by people, and maybe there was too [many] people who were drunk and whenever you have alcohol the level of violence can just increase.
If we have the feeling that we have to regulate something we will always regulate, Valcke said.
Brazil banned sales of alcohol from stadiums more than a decade ago, at least in part to tackle problems with violence, yet FIFA insisted that the country reintroduce sales for the World Cup. Budweiser is one of the major sponsors of the event, and its parent company, Anheuser-Busch InBev, is the only company allowed to sell beer at matches.

I haven't heard about any problems related to drunk fans. I guess Budweiser is doing too well.
How is this going to work in Qatar?

(1,186 posts)Brazil has a law that forbids the sale of alcohol at soccer games. FIFA forced them to temporarily suspend that law because Budweiser is a major sponsor. I guess you get what they pay you for.

(78,249 posts)Do they sell any of that swill outside our borders? If so, dear FSM, WHY??!!
edit: Come to think of it, that may explain the tragic events yesterday, and in previous World Cups: "the Budweiser Curse".
