Today's the day that exciting things may or may not happen.
Where does Jon Lester go?
Does David Price get traded?
What do the contenders do?
Do the Phillies and Red Sox blow up their teams?

(31,221 posts)HOLY SHIT!!!
No way they would have signed Cespedes long-term, so they would have lost him sooner or later. He does have a history of recurring injuries too.
That should make Hammels / Milone / Pomeranz additional trade bait for a second baseman.
Beane is on a tear.

(31,221 posts)Not long after they reportedly landed an elite starting pitcher in Jon Lester, the A's have continued to deal as Thursday's Trade Deadline approached sending left-hander Tommy Milone to the Twins for outfielder Sam Fuld.
Milone, 27, will report to Triple-A Rochester. He has spent the past three seasons with the A's. In 75 games with Oakland (73 starts), he is 31-22 with a 3.84 ERA. He is 6-3 with a 3.55 ERA this season, in 16 starts spanning 96 1/3 innings.
The left-hander was a 10th-round Draft pick by the Nationals in 2008.
Fuld, who played in seven games for the A's earlier this season before being selected off waivers on April 20 by the Twins, is batting ,263 with 21 RBIs, 13 stolen bases and 20 runs scored this year.

I guess Fuld is probably back-up for an often injured Coco Crisp.

(20,176 posts)No reports yet what the Sox got but it's apparently MLB players and not prospects. I'm really starting to think Cherington has no idea what he's doing. The Sox are f**ked for 2015...stop trading for MLB talent. Get prospects on pace for 2016 and beyond.

(31,221 posts)Could be time for a retool anyhow. Call up the AAA players up now, see how they perform, and plug the holes in the offseason.

I'll take it. We keep our big three prospects.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Indians have traded veteran shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera to the Washington Nationals for Zach Walters, a switch-hitting infielder, who was just promoted to the big leagues.
The Indians acquired Cabrera, 28, from Seattle on June 30, 2006 for Eduardo Perez. The trade turned out to be a steal for then GM Mark Shapiro.
Cabrera made his big-league debut on Aug. 8, 2007 and helped the Indians win the AL Central and reach Game 7 of the ALCS with his play at second base down the stretch. Cabrera hit .283 (45-for-159) with nine doubles, two triples, three homers and 22 RBI in 45 games.
Cabrera represented the Indians in consecutive All-Star games in 2011 and 2012. He had his best power year in 2011, hitting .273 (165-for-604) with 32 doubles, five triples, 25 homers and 92 RBI in 151 games.

(31,221 posts)though in the last 4-6 weeks he started to heat up a bit.
Best years are behind him, of course. But if Nats make the playoffs I think he'd be of help, either everyday or off the bench.

(56,177 posts)could compete this year...no wonder no one shows up at the Rays' homes games, the owners don't care about winning, just making money.

(35,453 posts)No one is going to give them top prospects for Cliff Lee. It would have served them better to eat some of his money and just move him for whatever.

(60,028 posts)the team sucked this year WITH Lester and Lackey and Miller.
They can now have a real youth movement - bring up some of those golden Pawtucket arms, let Xander go back to SS, play Middlebrooks at third - maybe Pedroia and Papi will relax with some hitting protection around them.
I think they are just prepping for 2015 and more moves will be in the works - but at least it will be more interesting watching the kids play than the painful last few months!
