Ha!! 49er coach, Chip Kelly has been fired

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- San Francisco 49ers confirm that head coach with GM Trent Baalke.

Team CEO Jed York announced the moves after the team completed a 2-14 season with a 25-23 loss to Seattle. York says the "decision to change our football leadership was absolutely necessary."

The Niners tied the worst record in franchise history previously done in 1978, '79 and 2004.

The new coach will be the fourth in four seasons. The team got rid of Jim Harbaugh after 2014 and then fired Jim Tomsula and Kelly after one season each.

Kelly was hired by the 49ers after being released by the Philadelphia Eagles in December of 2015.

Here's hoping he takes his Ace, Colin Kaepernick, with him

2. Good question. He fired general manager, Trent Baalke, too

I suspect idiot York wishes he had a 'do over' and fired Baalke instead of Jim Harbaugh back in 2014.

Jed York suggests 49ers will roll over cap space to 2017

Well, that’s something....

Jed York’s post-firing press conference was mostly a train wreck, but we did get one piece of potentially useful information out of it. York was asked if the San Francisco 49ers would be rolling its sizable amount of 2016 cap space over into 2017. York said they have always done that, suggesting that is the plan again this year.

NFL teams have until 1 p.m. PT today to inform the NFL in writing about how much cap space if any they will roll over into the 2017 league year salary cap. There have been plenty of accusations about the York family being cheap. York said during the press conference are willing to spend the money needed to turn things around.

We’ll see what this offseason brings, but the decision to roll over the cap space is at least a moderately positive step forward. Whether they properly spend it is another question entirely, but it’s something, I suppose.

4. What a train wreck in Santa Clara and Oakland

Trent Baalke, Jed and John York destroyed the 49ers, but Denise DeBartolo York owns the team and the ultimate blame rests with her.

As for the Raiders, they've done almost everything right since Al's death only to lose Carr when they could least afford to.

5. Ar least the Raiders have the upside and have moved on

from the passing of Al Davis. They now have a great foundation for many good years to come.

The 49ers, OTOH, stink from the head down (deBartolo and York)
Who the hell would want to work for and with those two?

6. Bummer, Carr busting his leg. Hell, they had a genuine shot of going all the way with him

Even this lifelong 49er fan was warming up to the underdog Raiders in a huge way

Screw the 49ers. They've mad bombastic decisions they last few years and it bit them in the butt:

Trading Alex Smith to the Kansas City then anointing that asshole Colin Kaepernick, and then firing Jim Harbaugh instead of Baalke are the two big ones that come to mind.

I'm really liking the underdog Green Bay Packers with that Chico, Ca native at the helm.

8. I've wondered if Harbaugh could have improved Kaepernick

He improved Smith a bit. Kaepernick is an incredible athlete but he's not playing the QB spot well.

9. NO! Kaepernick has all the physical skills, and then some, but he is as dumb as a sack of hammers

Ironically, the one coach that could have worked Kaepernick was Chip Kelly, but Kaepernick was damaged merchandise, a confirmed headcase before Kelly even arrived.

Note: There were quiet negotiations to trade Kaepernick to the Eagles while Kelly was still there. Harbaugh and Kelly thought it was a win-win for everyone, but the asshole, Baalke nixed it; Kaepernick was Baalke's pet project. Many speculate this was the cause of the friction between Baalke and Harbaugh.

Oh, Jed York et al. is as dumb as a sack of hammers, too.

10. Smith is playing under a consistent solid system

Under Andy Reid while Kaeperneck is playing under dysfunction. I think Kaeperneck could work under a Kubiak like system with play action, roll outs and bootlegs but more than anything him or any other QB need talent around them and based on what Brother posted upthread, 49ers management appear to want to continuing to be cheap. I imagine that it will be difficult for SF to attract coaching talent and long term stability.

13. Maybe. I don't think he looks comfortable in the pocket though ...

and I don't think he ever will. I think that ability is a must.

Tear it all down. Let the new GM and coach draft their own QB.
