To about 40% of America, Donald Trump can do no wrong. You’ll recall his possibly defensible boast that he could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and not lose a vote. But tolerance has its limits, and the president’s latest offense is pushing them.

During a recent round, reportedly, at his club in Bedminster, N.J., Trump sent shivers through the golf community when he — gasp! — drove his cart on the putting green. As far as self-inflicted political damage, he might as well put ketchup on a well-done steak or eat pizza with a knife and fork.

But, hey, as a great man once said, “when you’re a star, they let you do it,” and all that.
