DENVER - Sources are reporting that former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning and Denver Broncos' executive vice president of football operations John Elway will meet to discuss Manning's options.
There have been numerous reports that Manning is considering the quarterback position in Denver.
It is unknown at this time how likely it is that Manning were to accept the offering and what the Broncos would do with quarterback Tim Tebow.
Manning arrived just after 1:30 p.m. at Centennial Airport.

(20,365 posts)Whether or not the Broncos can close the deal with Peyton Manning remains to be seen.
Rest assured, money will not be an issue, according to an NFL source.
Broncos owner Pat Bowlen is prepared to do whatever it takes to land Manning, the highly prized free-agent quarterback who is flying with the team's football bosses of John Elway, John Fox and Brian Xanders to Denver for an visit.
Bowlen took a redeye flight late last night from his Hawaii residence and is at his Dove Valley headquarters office awaiting Manning's arrival.

(65,227 posts)But, this makes perfect sense. They have a good defense, they can run the ball ok, and they don't have a top notch QB.
And, the fans won't make much noise about benching Tebow if the option is to play a HoF QB who has a few years left. (Assuming he's fully healthy.)
So, all the no way stuff, i don't get.

(29,322 posts)Which makes them a more likely candidate than most other teams. More than the Cardinals I believe, who would need to quickly cut Kolb(which is a risk--considering they have to sign Manning to make the risk worth it). I would not mind but Manning but I think Kolb is alright, plus they have Skelton who is a rough around the edges but has arm strength and can scramble, break tackles in the pocket.

(20,365 posts)Do the Cardinals have the money to outbid the Donkos?
Personally, I don't want him here. I don't think he will ever be nearly as good as he was. And I love Tim Tebow!

(29,322 posts)If they cut Levi Brown that will give them over $16 million. Right now they are sitting at 3. If they can convince Manning to sign before the 17th, then the Cardinals can go ahead and cut Kolb before his roster bonus. Right now the Broncos have close to $50 million free which is why I'm thinking Denver is a more likely candidate.

The Denver Post confirmed that Elway, the Broncos vice president of football operations, coach Fox and Xanders, the team's general manager, flew to Stillwater, Okla., where they attended the Oklahoma State pro day workout that featured quarterback Brandon Weeden.
As the Broncos' watched the Cowboys' Pro Day, the plane went on to Miami to pick up Manning, who has a condominium in South Florida. The plane then flew Manning back to Stillwater, where it picked up the Broncos' contingent. Manning and the Broncos are scheduled to be on their way to Denver this afternoon.
While Manning is unquestionably the Broncos' current top offseason priority, the team also is making time for option B. The Broncos have the No. 25 pick in the draft, plus the 25th selection in the second round. Weeden, who turns 29 in October, is considered the second-best passer to Luck in the draft. He is projected to be chosen between the Broncos' top two picks.
The pursuit of Manning creates doubt about Tim Tebow's future with the Broncos. It's possible the Broncos may keep Tebow, the incumbent quarterback who will draw a relatively modest $1.572 million this season, as a package player. Or the team may trade him before the draft.

(20,365 posts)The free-agent quarterback arrived by Pat Bowlen's private plane about 1:35 p.m. today at the Centennial Airport. Accompanying Manning on the flight in were Broncos' front-office boss John Elway, head coach John Fox, general manager Brian Xanders and offensive coordinator Mike McCoy.
After departing the plane, Manning and the Broncos' contingency set off The Great Toyota Sequoia Chase.
A TV camera-equipped helicopter followed the Sequoia on its slow, short ride from the Centennial Airport to the Broncos' headquarters before the SUV disappeared into Bowlen's personal garage.
More word is that Archie Manning arrived in his private jet later.

(17,087 posts)It makes a lot of sense. Denver can have a clear path into the playoffs with Peyton. The Jets and Dolphins have the Pats to contend with, Ravens and Steelers aren't interested, and he doesn't want to go into the NFC, which is full of QB talent already. The AFC West is a safe bet.

Home:
Kansas City Chiefs (7-9)
Oakland Raiders (8-8)
San Diego Chargers (8-8)
Cleveland Browns (4-12)
Pittsburgh Steelers (12-4)
Houston Texans (10-6)
New Orleans Saints (13-3)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-12)
Away
Kansas City Chiefs (7-9)
Oakland Raiders (8-8)
San Diego Chargers (8-8)
Baltimore Ravens (12-4)
Cincinnati Bengals (9-7)
New England Patriots (13-3)
Atlanta Falcons (10-6)
Carolina Panthers (6-10)
Even if they lost to every team with a winning record from last year, they'd still finish 10-6.

(20,365 posts)Remember that billboard last season urging Broncos coach John Fox to play Tebow? Well, it's been updated. This time, the sign asks folks to vote for who they'd rather see at quarterback: Tebow or Peyton Manning. And at this writing, Tebow is winning.
The billboard directs folks to OneSwoosh.com, hyped as "A Simple Way to Search...With Only One Swoosh!" But its physical location is outside Multiline International Imports, at 5786 Logan Court. Multiline employee Mohammad Suleiman says debate about which QB should wear orange next season inspired the new electro-placard.
"We've had customers come in and say they're pro-Manning," Suleiman notes. "So we thought it would be interesting to see what Denver has to say about it."
The complete results won't be released until Monday, March 12 -- but as of moments ago, Suleiman says "we've probably had 60 percent pro-Tebow and 40 percent pro-Manning." And that's fine by him. In his words, "We're definitely pro-Tebow. We cast our votes for him."

There will be no exception for Peyton Manning. The free-agent quarterback with 399 touchdown passes, 11 Pro Bowl appearances and one Super Bowl ring is getting ready to leave Denver for the Phoenix area, where he is scheduled to meet with the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday night, according to two NFL sources.
