Orioles - hummers
Never saw an oriole till about 8-9 years ago when one landed on my hummingbird feeder. It was a female so I never suspected it was an oriole, which I knew was orange.
Anyway, thru newsgroups found out what she was and was told to put some jelly out - grape jelly.
I put it in little plastic cups attached to a few branches. These cups have to be refilled during the day because of all the customers. They'll come till late summer when the bees take over (and too few bees) or hornets. A wooden bird feeder with the removable plastic shields taken out with 2 jar lids filled with jelly on the platform work fine (hopper type feeder), and they prefer white lids.
They have liquid oriole feeders and my birds used them, but mainly only for the first couple of weeks after they arrived (May 1-5 or so) and then they didn't care about the sugar water as much. All they wanted was jelly, grape jelly. People told me oranges. I put out oranges, they ate them unenthusiastically. All they want is jelly.
