Very cool

1. Is their song always fairly long,

without breaks? I assume your video was unaltered.

My husband does a lot if birding. I used to, but not so much since moving to GA a few tears ago. We did spot a lovely blue indigo last week!

2. I keep reading that Eastern Whippoorwills are not found west of Iowa, but DOW says they are in CO

I know I hear them and here is a documented sighting (being nocturnal that is fairly rare):

Eastern Whip-poor-will
Chico Basin Ranch, Pueblo Co.

I remember them vividly from youth so being a very early riser, I knew the sound. Of course, they are at risk from the red-tailed hawks, Great Horned Owls, and Falcons out here, but they persist, it seems.
