Question on Downy Woodpeckers

My partner and I keep bird feeders outside the kitchen windows. We get titmice, wrens, cardinals, mockingbirds, etc. But our favorite of all are the downy woodpeckers who come to the suet feeder. They are just delightful. They will cling to the brick and peek around the corner before going to the feeder and it is just adorable. They are less skittish than the others. I do have a question about them.

It seems there is always one on the feeder, usually a male (as I understand it they keep the females from feeding-we don't see a female too often). Do they eat often throughout the day? Or, may we have more than one pair?

We enjoy her videos and find them interesting and educational for our birding.
