and I put my computer speakers in my window overlooking my bird feeders. The Male Cardinals go nuts when I play the song of another male Cardinal. It's funny as all heck. When the Starlings and Grackles show up I play songs (screeches) from Red Tail Hawks and Peregrine Falcons. That's one way to clear them out before they empty the feeders. It also chases the nice birds away too though. I've used the Cornell site for at least 10 years now. I was a complete novice when I started, and the Cornell site was a wealth of knowledge for identifying birds I never saw before.

wwaaaayyy back in the day i had cassette tapes from cornell.
owls and woodpeckers always answer you back. once, on a camping trip, i was playing the owls when i started getting barred owls answering. then they went quiet. about 10 minutes later there were a bunch of them, 8-10 in the pines all around our campsite. so cool.

but if you play them during mating season, you will scare them away.
