(131,107 posts)but not yet visible. These were taken from my car, steering wheel is in the way.
Had a heckuva storm last night, check my FB, but I feel fine as this 'cottage' has been standing for 100+ years, so I figure I'll survive!

(68,644 posts)Let me guess.... Lusby?
There's a little airfield there with the same windvane with little airplane design!

(131,107 posts)My landlord/neighbor's 'little airfield!'

(68,644 posts)I have my little shack on the levee with birds out every day, but less open space and not the long vistas that you have.
Watery places, I'm drawn to them!

(131,107 posts)I seem to be drawn to water too, and still can't believe I found, and ended up 'having' this place! Its been 1 year since I saw it, signed lease shortly thereafter, and moved in part-time mid-September. Now I'm here almost permanently, especially now because my daughter's due to give birth!

(131,107 posts)Hangar's usually closed. Guess neighbor/owner's working on it today. He's usually here 1-2 days a week.
Don't know if/when he flies it.

(68,644 posts)I see what looks like a British insignia on the bottom side of the wing, but it looks more modern than WW2.
And the 442 ain't bad, either!
thanks!

(131,107 posts)He's an engineer, so likes to play with these things, I guess.

(131,107 posts)de Havilland Beaver, 2 seats. He hasn't flown it recently, too many expenses, like insurance, to enable that. He's got 17 year old triplets, colleges coming up next year, lots of property to keep up here, and his own 'small' engineering business (and his wife's not sure if govt or private environmental some kind of work.)
I'd love to be a pilot, but it's not cheap!
Thanks for looking into that, the aircraft has really beautiful lines!
elleng
(131,107 posts)he decided to get it airborne while I'm here/alive, and I went up with him???

(1,945 posts)Two crows sitting together, with the caption "Attempted murder!"

(70,215 posts)as you know i am a crow master, or something.
i watched what started as a pair grow to 3 pairs, which i am told is critical mass to build the big nests, and rear a clutch. usually an established pair recruits younger helpers.
it was fun to listen to them calling and forming up.
i cemented my demented image by not only yelling, but getting the local kids to yell.
i am getting kinda good at their little echo tests.
they do seem to coming back from west nile here. i was told there is also a nest going on the next block. super, super excited. we used to have big murders, but they literally fell out of the air in 2002. this is the first nest that i have noticed. have seen a few birds the last few years.
need to take a wander and see if i can find a nest. got a basic echolocation on them.
elleng
(131,107 posts)No idea where their nest is, because there's a lot of property around here. Landlord has maybe 100 acres, much cultivated, on which my cottage is located, maybe 3 acres is 'mine.' LOTs of trees.
2 osprey nests on 'my' property.
