Sir Alex Ferguson to retire as Manchester United manager

Sir Alex Ferguson will step down as Manchester United manager at the end of the season after 26 years in charge.

The Scot, 71, has won 38 trophies during his reign at Old Trafford and will now become a director and ambassador for the club.

His haul includes 13 league titles, two Champions League crowns, five FA Cups and four League Cups.

Everton's David Moyes and Jose Mourinho, currently at Real Madrid, are the bookmakers' frontrunners to take over.

...I am so glad that this sour-faced, whingeing git is finally, FINALLY getting off the stage. He is the very textbook definition of a poor loser, his team has never, EVER lost a game that wasn't the fault of the referees...

Good riddance..

Although now he's set to become an ambassador for the club. How exactly is that going to work?

Moyes? Hmmm... He seems to have plateaud at Everton for a few years and maybe he's ready for this step, but I'm not sure. No European experience, not likely to attract talent.

If I had to pick either, I'd back Mourinho. I had a funny feeling after that "the better team lost" post-match interview when Real knocked out United in the CL that a deal was in the works.
