Copa America 2024

I start this thread because there may be more regional interest in this competition since the USA is involved. My personal interest in this tournament wont happen until the 2 semis and the final.

There’s really only 4 countries in it that are worth watching. Argentina and Brazil are world class. Colombia and Uruguay have enough star players to keep it interesting. The rest of the teams suck.

It’s a shame that Brazil and Colombia are in the same group. I would have had Colombia and Venezuela change places.

The USA sucks. The top leaders of the organization are more interested in keeping their authoritarian offices than in doing what’s best. As a result, everyone else suffers. I hope they lose based upon their uniforms alone. They look like some magical fairy vomited up a Pepsi can and thought it would look good. They’re hideous.

For those interested, please comment on the games!

Actually, Uruguay beat both Brazil and Argentina earlier this year during the South American qualification games for the 2026 World Cup, and no Country has won more Copa America tournaments than Uruguay.

will not change. Mostly agree with the original post. However, watch for a resurging Mexico to pull one of the many surprises to come.

The USA is in horrible shape and has been for a while, but it was really on display last night. Hopefully last night’s incoherent performance will convince the right people to get rid of the current leadership and get back on some type of noticeable road of how things ought to be. If they stay the course, forget about things improving.

From where I stand, 3 of the top 4 teams made it this far (Brazil would easily beat Canada). To prep for this, since I didn’t watch the games, I watched the highlights of the last 2 games of the 4 remaining teams.

Argentina v Canada
Uruguay v Colombia

I’ll add previews later. Games are this coming Tuesday and Wednesday.

This matchup is just embarrassing. Canada has no business being here. If Argentina were to lose, they’d never live it down. They played the opening contest where the stats show Argentina dominated the game. Expect more of the same.

As expected, Argentina cruises to the win. Messi gets a goal. Canada needs to stick with hockey and curling.

This will be a great matchup between two skilled and exciting South American national teams. Colombia is really clicking right now, and Uruguay has plenty of talent. Game too even to call but I would give Colombia a very, very, very slight edge.

Colombia goes up a goal, plays the second half a man down, and holds on to win. Some attacking but a lot of theatrics and time wasting. Uruguay could just never string their attacks together. Congrats Colombia!

This should be an excellent matchup between the current WC champions and an attacking Colombia side. Nice final to an otherwise less-than-stellar tournament. Slight advantage to Argentina.

After an upbeat first 90 minutes and no scoring, it takes until the second OT period for Argentina to score the games only goal. Congrats Argentina!!
