COVID surge causes flight reductions at Columbia (MO) Regional Airport

COLUMBIA REGIONAL AIRPORT — Officials with Dallas-based American Airlines announced Wednesday they would reduce their flights from Columbia Regional Airport in February. Columbia Regional Airport Manager Michael Parks said these were temporary changes related to the pandemic.

American Airlines officials were cutting back services at Columbia Regional Airport because of pilot and staffing shortages. American Airlines flights will decrease from 138 originally planned flights to 96 flights for February. The 42-flight reduction would affect flights to and from Dallas and Chicago. Conor Shields frequently flies from Chicago to do business with Mizzou medical technology researchers. Shields had concerns about fewer flight options.

Shields said, “It’s nice to get here conveniently so we can get in and out. Cutting back on flights will affect our line of work.”
