http://www.metrolyrics.com/follow-your-arrow-lyrics-kacey-musgraves.htmlThe google to find the song brought up all sorts of irate discussion. The people who seem to be most into this are also the people who think "faith alone".
I'm confused.

(14,139 posts)The Kacey Musgraces song basically says, "Do whatever you want. You can't please everyone."
If you're confused about the "If you don't go to church, you'll go to hell" line, yes, that attitude may be prevalent among some believers, but going to church is no guarantee of heavenly rewards, either. In the context of the song, though, she was contrasting between the ideas: if you don't go to church, you're bad. But if you sit in the front row, then you're a phony.
Bottom line: people are judgmental.

(32,822 posts)My understanding of Evangelical thought is that "faith is sufficient" (as contrasted with "faith without works is dead" . I don't remember reading anywhere in the Bible that church attendance was mandatory. Unlikely considering at that point Christianity didn't have churches.
The song merely brought the issue to mind - the song itself I get (and like).

(14,139 posts)They'll say, "Faith alone is sufficient--all you need to do is believe." But IN PRACTICE, they frown on it if you don't show up on Sunday to hear the preacher's sermon and if you don't give a donation and if you drink or dance or whatever particular sin they're agin. So while they SAY faith is all you need, they do expect a certain amount of walking the walk.
