I do not speak for all liberal Christians. Only myself

I believe in evolution

I do not believe the Bible is a science book or without error

If I say God bless you or your are doing the lords work to an atheist I mean it as a recognition of common values (if a person of a an animist faith told me they were praying for me in their own way, I would be honored)

I do not prosletize

I apparantly insulted some atheists by thanking my God for them as they share my values on social justice. Please accept my apologies.

I had a great exchange with Trotsy tonight and I hope to build on that.

I am a member of the LGBT community and for me Christ is important because he lets me know I am his child and accepted as such.

Anyone who has been offended by anything I have done, please forgive me.

Love you all,
Arely

Thst is all.

...is that they seem to know so little about Christ. Especially the preachers! But I can see by your words that you understand Christ quite well.

- All we ever needed to know was two things:

1. Unconditional LOVE is how it works.
2. Make sure you always have plenty of number 1.

If someone of the Christian faith says "god bless you" I'm not insulted if it were intended in a kind way. I feel the same about every other faith.

I try to be respectful of others and their beliefs. Even when I don't share them. The only times I make an exception is when their beliefs begin to infringe on others rights, or hurt society as a whole.

It sounds to me like you and I would get along fine if we met each other. I bet we share most all of the same values and ethics even. These are the things which, to me, are what we should base our interactions and relationships with others on. Not things like a person's race, religion, sexual orientation, class, etc. It's who you've chosen to be, as a member of the human, race that matters.

On edit: This is twice now I've followed a post from the "trending now" into the religion group (or is this a forum?) by accident. My apologies! I'm not a person who seeks out controversy on this topic. My intentions were to help bring peace of mind only.

There is plenty of work to do in the world, and we are going to need all people of good faith pulling together to have a chance of making a difference - no matter what their belief systems.

God's Peace be upon you.

Would agree with all or most of what you wrote. I think the difficulty between DU Christians and DU atheist is the heavy use of a broad brush painting all with the same tar- This works both ways.

I don't think you meant to insult or harm anyone, and I think your intentions were sincere.

But you sure picked a sore.

If this is an opportunity to tear down some walls and mend some fences, then it may have been worth it.

It takes a lot of step down and make an apology like this and I am so glad that you are participating here.

I will take you at your word that you did not intend to provoke. I would also ask that you try to come to a genuine understanding as to why your posts were provocative and taken unkindly, and why your motives were suspected from the outset.

I do believe that you thought you were behaving in a loving way. So I can leave this entire episode alone with no hard feelings.

Love you too.

but if you haven't figured out that it is actually insulting to some people to bring up your religious beliefs in every conversation, ESPECIALLY when "attempting" to find common ground with those who expressly reject religion, it is time.

"I apparantly insulted some atheists by thanking my God for them as they share my values on social justice."

this comes across as pretty disingenuous to me.
