(146,218 posts)1. This is not really a change from his previous position.
He wants to get rid of the extremists in Egypt. When he talks of enlightenment, I don't think he is proposing anything radical. He would simply like for the more moderate leaders within Islam to take a more forceful stand against the extremists, imo.

El-Sisi continued his forceful message with a powerful statement that the source of global conflict originates in ideologies from the Muslim world.

We've been repeatedly told here that all the Good People know that religion is not the source of global conflict. Although sometimes we make exceptions of islam. Then again sometimes we don't.
On a more serious note, this is yet another part of the middle east puzzle. Support dictators or risk theocratic autocracy or utter chaos or both. Overthrow Qaddafi and get the Libyan Mess. Overthrow Hussein and get Al Qaeda in Iraq. Mess up the Assad government and get ISIS. Toss out Mubarak and get The Muslim Brotherhood setting up an Islamic Theocracy.

El-Sisi was talking bollocks. He has no intention of any 'reform' in his own country whatsoever.
