NY Walmart store investigator claims supervisors harassed her over religious beliefs

BY Stephen Rex Brown

A Pentecostal store investigator at a Rockland County Walmart says she was harassed by supervisors after insisting she couldn’t work Sundays due to her religious beliefs.

Cory Chavis says in her suit filed in Manhattan Federal Court that in 2013 a new policy required her to work on the Christian Sabbath, which she refused.

Her bosses allegedly refused to give her a religious exemption. After complaining to corporate headquarters Chavis, 40, says she got her way – but that honchos then waged a campaign of retaliation against her.

They allegedly searched her office at the Suffern, NY, location where she works, denied her interviews for open positions and went to extreme lengths to ensure she arrived to work on time.

Really? Wal Mart is not aware that they need to get employees to agree to Sunday work when they are hired? Something smells a little off in this story. Anyone know what a "store investigator" might be?

In my county the DA's office has essentially become a collection agency for Walmart.

Given Walmart's history of disregard for any aspect of their workers' lives, from time off, to child care, to work schedules, to pay, to part-time statis, etc., this does not surprise me.
