June 28, 2016 by Martin Hughes
When youre an atheist, youre not supposed to admit that you miss heaven.
At least, thats the impression Ive gotten in writing for an atheist crowd. The line Im supposed to take to heart, I gather, is that heaven would be a dreary place, with all the bowing to God. Besides, they tell me, no matter how good heaven is, Id get tired of it.
So, for the most part, Ive kept the fact that I miss heaven to myself.
Im done with that. Im going to be honest and let the chips fall where they may.
I miss heaven. I dont miss God, and I dont think I want to be there forever. I certainly dont miss the concept of hell. But I wish there was a place where I could understand everything. Where everyone loved each other, deeply. Where we had that deep, rich happiness that feels like Moms sweet potato pie on Thanksgiving. Everyone peaceful, everyone loving each other, everything beautiful.

heaven has its appeal
forgiveness for anything and everything you've ever done wrong has its appeal.
72 virgins has its appeal
atheists don't reject this stuff for lack of appeal. they reject this stuff because they believe it's just a fantasy.
