What role do you think overpopulation plays in that?

So, ostentatious AND wasteful/non-environmentally friendly.
Not to mention shipping the popemobile and other vehicles to visitation destinations.
Tell us all about the modesty and environmental cleanliness of the Vatican/Co.

I feel the same way about Leonardo DiCaprio when he does the same shit. Champion environmental causes, then burn more CO2 than I do in a YEAR, just to go somewhere and accept an award.

(33,982 posts)Had I been given that message sans the origin, I might consider them good words. But add the context of who says it, and how they behave, and the message is undermined.
It's not as much of a smoking ruin as if it were an eloquent and positive speech about Women's Issues/Rights, if delivered by Donald Trump. The Vatican does have a large array of solar panels, and buys carbon offsets in a forest, I think in France. So, not a complete sad ruin.
But not good either. The message is damaged when, say, climate deniers calc the carbon footprint of Al Gore's home while Al is trying to draw attention to the issue. When you're asking people to pay more for greener things/energy, or asking them to conserve more, which is essentially 'doing without', and it can be shown you consume far more than the average person...
Kinda screws up the message, n'est-ce pas?

Also, money-laundering rules has made it difficult for them to operate in many banking systems.
