Let's party! Pope insists there is no hell!In another interview with his longtime atheist friend, Eugenio Scalfari, Pope Francis claims that Hell does not exist and that condemned souls just "disappear." This is a denial of the 2,000-year-old teaching of the Catholic Church about the reality of Hell and the eternal existence of the soul.
The interview between Scalfari and the Pope was published March 28, 2018 in La Repubblica. The relevant section on Hell was translated by the highly respected web log, Rorate Caeli. The interview is headlined, "The Pope: It is an honor to be called revolutionary." (Il Papa: “Č un onore essere chiamato rivoluzionario." ) Scalfari says to the Pope, "Your Holiness, in our previous meeting you told me that our species will disappear in a certain moment and that God, still out of his creative force, will create new species. You have never spoken to me about the souls who died in sin and will go to hell to suffer it for eternity. You have however spoken to me of good souls, admitted to the contemplation of God. But what about bad souls? Where are they punished?" Pope Francis says, "They are not punished, those who repent obtain the forgiveness of God and enter the rank of souls who contemplate him, but those who do not repent and cannot therefore be forgiven disappear. There is no hell, there is the disappearance of sinful souls." https://www.cnsnews.com/blog/michael-w-chapman/pope-francis-there-no-hell ![]() NO! NO YOU WON'T! WOOT!!!

4. It's no accident that Trump's most enthusiastic followers embrace the concept of a literal Hell.
What could be better than a promise that people who piss you off will experience eternal agony?
On the other hand, decent people are troubled by the notion, no matter how devout they might be. |

6. So, Heaven is the eternal "contemplation of God?"
Uff da! I've already done that, and dismissed it as fantasy. I doubt I could do it for eternity. That sounds like punishment to me. I'd rather my soul disappeared, which would come as no surprise. I think such a thing only exists while we live, anyhow.
Next, I suppose, the Pope will admit that God is actually just a concept of man's mind. Now that, I think would demonstrate good reason and logic on his part. Perhaps he'll do that soon. |

10. I grew up Catholic, learned the Mass in Latin (a language which none of us understood)
Back in the 60's..
I recall the day it was finally rewritten for the English only among us. Which, back then was everybody I knew. I recall the women's rights movements and (gasp) BIRTH CONTROL & the Catholic church strongly f.o.r.b.i.d.d.i.n.g Catholic women from using it along with the threat of eternal damnation. Catholics being Catholics, every female of reproducing age I knew began happily using "The Pill". Hell be damned. We'd take our chances. The gifs above are from Buzzfeed. I laughed too. #77. Wheel of Fortune was my fav. Who didn't sing that song? LoL https://www.buzzfeed.com/javiermoreno/100-catholic-memes-that-will-have-you-sinfully-laughing-for?utm_term=.scVPEP8bBG#.ly46b6gz03 |

8. Billy Graham essentially thought the same way I think
Hell wasn't a lake of fire but a separation from God, which means we're all in hell now, I guess, but I think he also believed in annihilation.

17. Lol. I see. I'm coming at it from the viewpoint of a sorta, maybe not anymore.
I guess I was speaking as someone who understands how people become believers but also how they can eventually become non believers. Or skeptical at best.
They are somewhere in the comfortable middle rather than "head first, all-in" believers. They are believers with what is preached until he gets to the point where the human psyche says, "wtf? Naaah, that's not how it is." i.e. Never lose your ability to trust in your own moral compass. Never hand it over completely to someone else. |

23. DUN DUN DUN!!!
The Vatican is literally falling apart after Pope Francis allegedly said ‘Hell does not exist’. Just hours after the Pope reportedly dismissed the fiery afterlife, the ceiling of St Peter’s Basilica began to crumble.
Easter worshippers ducked for cover as debris rained down on the floor by Michelangelo’s Pieta statue yesterday. The Vatican reported no injuries and minimal damage, just after a spokesman strenuously denied that the Roman Catholic Church was changing its tune over the afterlife. ‘No words in quotation marks should be considered as a faithful transcription of the Holy Father’s words,’ a Vatican spokesman said. http://metro.co.uk/2018/03/30/vatican-literally-falls-apart-pope-francis-says-hell-doesnt-exist-7428578/ |
