Do you want to know the easiest way to persecute a member of the religious right? If they ask you to join their church, tell them you are not interested. From their point of view, that would be sufficient.

(12,585 posts)that's where all the fun-loving people ended up, and I'd rather be among them for eternity than around the sanctimonious types I'd met in church. (The implication went right over her head.)

(38,958 posts)If a religious type comes to the door and it seems that happens a lot in the Spring season. I am polite as possible, listen if time permits and inform them I am not interested (which I suspect they hear frequently).
Years ago I had a very nice lady ask me "Do you believe in the bible" and I simply responded "I believe in the Constitution". She went her way and I went back to my yard work. I doubt she felt persecuted and I certainly didn't attempt to do so.

(79 posts)What I meant by this is not that I am interested in actually persecuting anyone, but that so many people in the Christian Right have overinflated the term "persecution" to mean doing or saying anything to displease them, or not adhering to their views. It's their "when I say 'jump', you say 'how high' mentality, or if you would like, call it a tactic. But that's kind of what I was getting at.
