The very nature of faith is believing in something without evidence, or in other words reason must be thrown out the window or it doesn’t work. For organized religion to propagate, several mental traps such as those discussed in the video must be employed. Adherents are taught their faith is a virtue and should be celebrated. This is the feedback loop that allows conviction to trump evidence. Most religions employ a metaphysical good vs evil narrative which are constantly at odds with each other. The feature of this dichotomy is an effective way to silence critics. Anyone who questions the central faith must be on the side of evil. In extreme cases you see people living in isolation and shunning all non-believers.

Another mental trap is the idea that the application of critical thinking to religious belief is not just an attack on the belief itself, but simultaneously to those who hold those beliefs. You even see this trap employed even by people who do not proclaim to hold those beliefs.
