Spanish Church sexual abuse affected 200,000 children, commission finds

More than 200,000 children are estimated to have suffered sexual abuse from Spain's Catholic clergy, an independent commission has found.

The details emerged from an unprecedented public investigation by Spain's ombudsman, who spoke of the "devastating impact" on victims.

Angel Gabilondo also criticised the Church for its inaction and attempts to cover up or deny the abuse.

The 700-page report, which was ordered by Spain's Congress last year, reveals the result of a survey that the commission carried out on 800,000 members of the public.

I was told by a Catholic friend that leaving the church would not do a thing to heal the sexual assault - that I should stay and help fix the church.

I asked her if that in effect would give my approval to what they did? How stupid do you think I am?

Would go to pay for the Priests crimes.
I am not telling people to stop believing in God, just quit this one club.
Do they really think God cares where they pray?

The confusion is thinking that the gods are benevolent. They aren't. See the Book of Job for a clue. At least the Hellenes got this right. Their myths are filled with malevolent gods being quite awful and humans utterly unable to comply with their endless petty demands.
