Ciego de Ávila, Cuba, Jul 21.- A group of religious leaders from US Baptist churches are visiting this province to know Cuban reality first hand and strengthen links of solidarity among Christians from the two nations.
Invited by the Coordinacion Obrero-Estudiantil Bautista de Cuba (COEBAC), based in Ciego de Avila, the US delegation held a meeting with representatives of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples in the territory and other local social organizations.
US Baptist Minister Scout L. Stearman expressed his appreciation of the warm welcome received from the people and government and party officials in the province.
"This is my third visit to the Island, as I love Cuba and its people very much, and we maintain very good relations with the Christian congregation in Ciego de Avila that welcomes us with great love and respect every year," he said.

(48,217 posts)I went on a trip to visit the Episcopal Church in Cuba in November. It was a fascinating experience, not always comfortable, but somehow very compelling. I hope to go again.
When I returned and talked about my experiences in the hot tub at the gym, I found that local Catholics, Methodists, and Quakers also travel to visit their counterparts in Cuba.

(48,217 posts)There are more than you think and more "gateways" than before. You used to have to fly out of Miami, but we were on the first plane to fly out of Chicago.

(146,218 posts)I also know a number of people who just went through Canada or the Bahamas.
Blew my wad on a big trip last year, so this won't happen in the near future, but I should really start planning a trip.
Thanks for the info.
