Huckabee: Lack of religion in classroom leads to violence in schools

(CNN) - Responding to the deadly mass shooting Friday in Newtown, Connecticut, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said new laws regulating guns won't deter such shootings, linking a lack of religious discussion in the classroom to increased violence in schools.

"We ask why there's violence in our school but we've systematically removed God from our schools," Huckabee said on Fox News. "Should we be so surprised that schools have become such a place of carnage? Because we've made it a place where we don't want to talk about eternity, life, what responsibility means, accountability."

"That we're not just gonna have to be accountable to the police if they catch us but one day we stand before a holy God in judgment. If we don't believe that, then we don't fear that," he said.

"People are going to want to pass new laws," Huckabee continued. "This is a heart issue ... laws don't change this kind of thing."

Could you possibly be a bigger hypocrite?

The attack is for saying something so disgusting and overtly political on the same day.
And I think we can all doubt that this is a deeply held belief, but just grandstanding.

In her very own, carefully considered and chosen words, Huckabee is "a fundamentalist using his concept of god". Clearly she didn't mean that he just became a fundamentalist and adopted his concept of god yesterday, for the purposes of political grandstanding. For anyone who's paid attention to Huckabee's career, there's no doubt that he's religious in that way, and has been for a long time. And it's hard to label this as "grandstanding" any more than the statements of people using this occasion to get on their soapbox about guns. Wrong and stupid in his case, sure, but he's far from the only person who's seized on this to make political hay.

Dec 2012

this IS the time to talk about the absence of god in schools, and its (according to HIS deeply held beliefs) devastating consequences. And yet cbayer insults and denigrates him for those deeply held beliefs, while she and her father hypocritically upbraid others for the exact same thing, and say they will fight against it wherever they see it.

Huckabbee's God said to go fuck yourself. Asshole.

There was a time when if someone in public life made such a horrible statement, his political career was over.
Doesn't seem to be anything a Repuke can say that will do that now.

She was so sincere and loving. I had mixed feelings, but came away feeling that she had a tool, used it and it helped.

Huckabee is an ass and should be ashamed of himself of using this for political leverage.

they are desperate. Their excuses are of the same quality as excuses that the rent is late--last minute feeble improbabilities. They need more time, more than the two thousand years they've had so far.
