The Tea Party is the absolute worst party in American history. Its just like every sequel the first one is totally awesome and brings about the creation of a new country, and the second one is Hangover 2. The Tea Party Nouveau is just like that! There is a fucking monkey and a Thai drug dealer and Michele Bachmann and whatshername, that one-time part-time quitter governor lady from that faraway iglooland place. The only change we have is more racism, an overabundance of derpitude, and a House of Representatives run by the Great Orange Crier. After trying to scam the gubmint to get out of paying taxes, how can the Tea Party possibly further ruin this week? Well, the religious scholars of the Alexander Lakes Area Tea Party recently decided to open their holier-than-thou, spittle-filled pieholes and spew forth vomitous awfulness. Ready to have your afternoon day-drinking buzz killed? Lets go!
Lets see what we know about George Soros. He is worth $4.5 gazillion dollars, is totally in love with Our Kenyan Emperor, and gives lots of monies away to super-duper liberal causes. Anything else about his past? Nah, nothing important we can think of.
Anyhoo, ALATP not only encourages prayers for Mr. Soros, they also give specific examples of prayers. This overwhelming majority of Christianists need total focus and concentration in order to really get God to intervene. Here is one of their prayers:

Show them some love.

(1,837 posts)nice of them to provide such an easy to use form.. sadly i didn't think to copy the text or i'd share it here. in essence it said in response to praying for Soros, atheists are going to perform an ancient ritual to de-convert every member of the TP back to the default state.. atheism.

(18,184 posts)AFAIK Soros has a Jewish heritage, this tea party stunt doesn't seem appropriate somehow.

According to wiki, "Soros was born in Budapest, Hungary, to a nonobservant Jewish family".

(146,218 posts)He believes that people of faith and faith communities contribute to the publics understanding of pressing social issues and often add a principled, moral aspect to debates that are too often dominated by politicians, statistics and polling.
His views on religion are embodied by the activities of the Open Society Foundations, which have provided funding for humanitarian projects to organizations representing many faiths.

(5,279 posts)I pretty sure they changed their names to fit the times. I think from things like Klu klux klan, German American Bund, John Birch, etc to the Tea party. At least the United Pedophiles Network stayed out of it (they deny it so far, the pedophiles deny it). Sort of a "Thinking Man's Skin Heads" political (lynch) party.
Now what does TEA really stand for?
Totally Egregious Assholes?
Total Ethical Abstinence?
Turpitude Emeritus Association?
Troglodyte Educational Advancement?
Tortuously Egotistical Aryans?

(40,416 posts)Or, so I imagine. It's not that it's a common thing for an atheist to do. Neither of my parents did, although they never actually said they were atheists, neither believed in any gods. My father's memorial service was Masonic, interestingly enough.
But the deathbed conversion is one of the memes that some believers use. Hitchens took care to make sure that any such claim in his case would be nullified.
I do find this kind of thing, as is related in the OP, to be kind of silly, childish, and not very productive except to rally the troops around the altar.
In other words... Meh!

(5,279 posts)Of all the ARROGANT, EVIL, and INEXCUSABLE religious practices around, this one is the winner by a mudslide.
Some of those shit on by the Church of Latter Day Saints. . Anne Frank (9 times), Albert Einstein, Irving Berlin, the parents of Simon Wiesenthal (Holocaust Victims), Simon Wiesenthal (Nazi Hunter), Maimonides (12th century Rabbi and legalist), Daniel Pearl, Joan of Arc, Douglas Adams, Steve Irwin, Elvis Presley, Carl Sagan, Aleister Crowley, Ann Dunham (mother of B.H. Obama), Diana F. Spencer (Princess Di), Pope John Paul II, Mohandas Gandhi, Jesus, Sherlock Holmes (despite being fictional), and a few bad-asses to give a little edge to the CLDS Josef Mengele, Ted Bundy, and Adolf Hitler.
The Roman Catholic Church has done it (in the past) as well But, couldn't get a list.

That and the one saying he never believed in evolution himself.
There are lies and damned lies, but that type of bullshit deserves its own category.
Though I did laugh when Bill Maher did a de-conversion for Mitt Romney's father in law =D
