Week ahead: Obama takes health pitch to Catholic group

By Peter Sullivan - 06/08/15 06:00 AM EDT

President Obama will speak at the Catholic Health Association on Tuesday in Washington, D.C., about the future of healthcare and the Affordable Care Act, a subject that has raised tensions with Catholic groups over birth control.

Some Catholic groups have objected to ObamaCare’s mandate that employers cover birth control. Under current law, the groups can receive an exemption by writing a letter to the Health and Human Services Department or filling out a two-page form to document their objections.

But the groups say those extra steps create an “unjustified substantial burden” and are calling for the same kind of across-the-board exemption that houses of worship receive under the law.

The Supreme Court has asked lower courts to reconsider several decisions given the ruling last year in the Hobby Lobby case, which exempted closely held corporations from ObamaCare’s mandate that employers cover birth control.

When I was given my mother's old car, I had to fill out considerably more than that to register it.
