When I was at the University of Chicago in the 70s, the Hillel house sponsored these annual debates between two professors who were basing their arguments based on their disciplines. I even volunteered my professor once..

I think that it expanded to other places and also required remote viewing since the small room was no longer enough to accommodate all the attendees.

Wonder whether it still goes on.

I think much was talked about the "significance" - economic, poetic, etc.

The only thing that I remember - because it was my professor - was about the blood generated from grating all those potatoes. I don't remember, though, whether this was an added "ingredient," since blood is a no-no in Jewish diet.
