Womens March co-founder Teresa Shook called on its current organizers to step down Monday, saying they allowed anti-Semitism.
In a Facebook post, Shook said Bob Bland, Tamika Mallory, Linda Sarsour and Carmen Perez have steered the Movement away from its true course".
In opposition to our Unity Principles, they have allowed anti-Semitism, anti-LBGTQIA sentiment and hateful, racist rhetoric to become a part of the platform by their refusal to separate themselves from groups that espouse these racist, hateful beliefs, Shook wrote.

(53,956 posts)Of course, I suspect the predictable fallout will be charges of racism, Islamophobia, and blaming the Jews. Let's see if this bends toward justice or tyranny. It should have never taken this long, nor should the main organizers been so milquetoast in their initial responses, but I am a bit hopeful; so, we shall see.
Behind the Aegis
(53,956 posts)I attended the first Womens March in Washington DC. The day after Donald Trumps inauguration, it was amazing to feel the sense of camaraderie in the air as thousands of people, mostly women, from across the country marched in protest and solidarity.
That was January 2017. By the summer of that year, I slowly started to realize that the Womens March as an organization didnt have the best interests for my specific intersection in mind. Im a bisexual Jewish woman. And its becoming more and more apparent that, to the Womens March, the concept of intersectionality doesnt extend to Jews.
The Womens March and Louis Farrakhan
For one thing, theres the fact that the leaders of the Womens March, specifically Linda Sarsour and Tamika Mallory, have a history of supporting controversial Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan. Farrakhan has a problematic history of misogyny, transphobia, homophobia, and anti-Semitism. In fact, he recently compared Jews to termites.
Despite calls from Jewish women and our allies (such as Ashlee Marie Preston, a Black transgender woman), the leaders of the Womens March refuse to distance themselves from Farrakhan. Theyve put out vague statements about not condoning anti-Semitism, but actions speak louder than words.
